| I'm really tempted to call it "heart", although I have never used that term to complete a film. Each character is a balance between a stereotype and exaggerated terribly accurate. White treats his characters with finesse and respect, while allowing them to be as ridiculous as they are modern humans. Laura Dern is a genius with his painful and requires a post-modern version sterile mother. Like all drivers, great to see so called "character actors" breathing space. If you are looking for "the school of rock" or "Orange County" you may be disappointed, but if you are intrigued and moved by "plate and ball" dog years "could hit the mark. This Year of the Dog Drama was at times recalls the work of Todd Solondz, in which the characters can be both realistic and absurd at the same time, and (as I see), both directors are careful to avoid exploitation of their characters. White's story is warm and traditional Solondz most work, however, it is likely that many viewers find the "dog" only "too depressing" or simply "fun," and probably not "funny" enough. Overall: Very nice and well-crafted short Year of the Dog Drama film that is both serious and silly, without being melodramatic or crazy: a triumph given the subject matter. Already has a spot near the top of my list of favorite recent films (the desert out there these days, it is a glass of pink lemonade). |
| Most Americans have a point in their life experienced the love of a dog or cat. This movie: Year of the Dog captures that feeling, however, shows what can happen when a person stops consuming all this love and does a great job. This is my favorite Year of the Dog film of 2007. The characters that make up the film, but are still cartoons depicting something real in all of us and the issues and the Year of the Dog Drama movie captures precisely the questions that many Americans face in contemporary society. What I like is that "dog haters", if they exist, is much more to enjoy in the Year of the Dog Drama too. This is because the dark side of love is animals equal time and thought given as to the beauty of giving their heart and soul completely to the love of animals. Moreover, the main character is so easy to laugh at what we mourn. This is not a silly comedy like most other movies with dogs in the title are, in my opinion, all the dogs. This is a black comedy with insightful ideas on issues that have a lot of proponents on opposite sides of a spectrum. If you want to see a Year of the Dog Drama movie where you can check your brain at the ticket then it probably is not one for you. If you want to be enlightened and entertained, check this out because, besides giving the viewer a good look at canine animals, this DivX film Year of the Dog is a brilliant description of the psychology of humans and animals. |
